The selective licensing fees in 2018 were £3480 per property for accredited landlords and £3780 per property for non-accredited landlords. We worked with our clients to ensure that they had the licence in place which is valid for up to five years and gave them advice regarding accreditation at the time. Fines of up to £330,000 were being applied to landlords that had not joined the scheme. We are pleased to say none of our clients had to worry about this penalty.
However, controversially Nottingham City Council has announced that they are increasing the selective licence fee because not enough landlords had joined the scheme as anticipated and they need to ensure that the running costs of the not-for-profit licensing department are met.
Adam Kingswood comments This further increase to an already expensive fee is making an already negative and controversial scheme worse, and will no doubt be a factor to the increasing rent levels in Nottingham.

If you still havent completed your selective licensing application, we suggest that you try and get this in place before the end of March 2020 so that you pay the lower fees. The licensing scheme runs for five years, so getting in quick will be very beneficial, especially if you have more than one property in the Nottingham City rental market.

Block Licensing Fee
The Block Licensing Fee, introduced in December 2019, is for landlords with apartments that fit the following criteria:
The cost of a Block Licence is £32,025 accredited landlords and £32,720 for non-accredited landlords.
The Dash and Unipol accreditation apply to apartments, and in the Accreditation Network UK (ANUK) also applies.
